Summer 2018 Schedule

Registration Info

Spaces are held on a first come, first serve basis once a registration form AND full payment are received (check, cash or money order). Students who withdraw from a summer session before June 15, 2018 will receive a full refund. After that point, an 80% refund will be issued. If a workshop is canceled due to low enrollment, payment will be refunded in full.

  • Rates include all materials unless otherwise noted.
  • All workshops are taught by Lindsay Fogg-Willits with an Assistant Teacher unless otherwise noted.
  • A maximum of 12 students are accepted for each week.
  • Projects do not repeat from summer-to-summer or from week-to-week.

Molly Carlisle will be helping out again as Assistant Teacher this summer! Molly is an illustrator and painter living in Florence, MA. She attended Mount Holyoke College, where she received a B.A in Studio Art, and spent a year studying painting and printmaking at the Lorenzo de’Medici School in Florence, Italy. Having spent four incredible summers teaching painting, printmaking, and batik at DASAC, she is excited to return to a relaxed environment and have some fun making art!

Summer Schedule

Session 1: COMICS!! with Jace Smith – Full. Please register for waiting list.

July 9-13
Ages 8-12

This week long program will be a fun introduction to the fundamentals of comic art, and will provide kids the opportunity to produce a comic! Students will learn drawing techniques, character development, and storytelling strategies, play comic art games which help to develop these skills, and much more.  A fun introduction to a popular genre of publishing and students are sure to leave with some beautiful work! Bring a snack and water bottle.

Jace Smith is an Amherst based art educator, illustrator, and published comic book artist. An alumna of both the School Of Visual Arts in New York City, and of the Massachusetts College Of Art And Design in Boston, Jace has shown work throughout the New England and New York area, and has done work for a wide variety of clients in different markets.

Ages 5-11

A great program for kids who love making art and want to explore lots of new approaches and materials! Projects throughout the week will focus on drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, fiber art, printmaking and more and will be inspired by a variety of themes and artists. July 23 – 27

Ages 6 -11

This week will be spent helping students to develop their painting and drawing skills through daily technique demonstrations, material experimentation and projects exploring a variety of themes including, landscape, portraiture, still life, figure drawing, abstraction and more. We will also learn ways that line, value, color, perspective and design principles can enhance a work of a art. This is a fun and relaxed week of 2D art-making for children of all levels! July 30 – August 3

Ages 6-11

A great workshop for children who have big imaginations and a love for building!   We will work with clay, wood, cardboard, paper mache, wire and more to create a variety of small and large-scale sculptures.  Projects will explore a variety of themes and will occasionally be inspired by sculpture artists working locally and abroad. Come ready to get your hands messy! Bring a snack and water bottle.

August 6 – 10

This fun week will explore how artists from around the world use art as a form of self and cultural expression. Each day we will focus on a different part of the world as inspiration for our projects and will learn some about the materials and processes artists would have traditionally used to create their work. This workshop is similar to Art Exploration in that the projects we do will explore a variety of approaches including drawing, painting, sculpture, fabric art, printmaking and more!  In addition to its multicultural approach, this workshop will also serve as an introduction to art history.  Bring a snack and water bottle.
