We can still share in the creative process by making, sharing and inspiring one another from afar!

We’re picturing a collective art-making experience structured around a weekly theme.

Here’s how it works

Art Always will offer up a theme (just like with drop-in art!!), you use the week’s theme as a jumping off point and you make a work of art at home with whatever you have on hand. Take a picture of it and private message it to Art Always via facebook or instagram (or text it to us 413-341-7006) with the artist’s first name, last initial and age. We will post the ones we get to social media and will have a gallery on our website as well.

We will add the name of everyone who participates to a drawing and will select two people at the end of this experience to receive 5 FREE drop-in art sessions once we re-open. We and High Five Books will also take the art that is shared and will document it in some way later this spring as a visual record of a strange time.

This week’s theme: MUSIC

It was the drop-in theme planned for this week all along and feels even more fitting as I watch videos of quarantined Italians making music from their balconies, or as I listen to my own children writing a song in the next room to pass the hours. I’m struck by the ways that art and music can be the bridge between cultures and languages, and by the comfort they lend in times of big feelings.

Some things to think about:
  • What might music LOOK like?
  • How could you make an instrument out of household materials that actually makes sound?
  • Can you draw a portrait of an instrument or a musician?
  • Can you turn a piece of sheet music into a work of art?
We can’t wait to see what you make!
